OVERHAUL  FAQ

These are the most frequently asked questions, and I totally understand that you most likely have more!  Please email your questions and include a telephone number and a good time to call so I can call and answer all of your questions. I am generally not available to the telephone at my shop, so email is the best way to contact me.

DO THE PRICES ON THE OVERHAUL OPTIONS PAGE APPLY TO ALL SAXES?

There is an additional charge for Conn saxophones with pivot screw locks ($100); Leblanc system horns ($350); Conn 26M and 30M horns ($200); Conn 28M horns ($300); Holton Rudy Weidoft horns ($100), Buffet S-1 and S-3 horns ($200),  and possibly for anything  truly out of the ordinary.

WHAT ABOUT BUESCHER SAXES?

I think I’ve got the worlds largest supply of original Buescher snaps. We use a very special pad which duplicates the original specifications (not too thick!!) in every regard except one: the leather is kangaroo, a much softer and more durable material than the original. These pads are made for us by our friends at MusicMedic. I’ve also got Norton screw in springs, and can, as an option, add resonators to your Buescher snap in system.

ARE THERE ANY HORNS THAT YOU WILL NOT WORK ON?

No Grafton or Selmer Padless horns need apply!

CAN I MIX AND MATCH OPTIONS FROM THE VARIOUS PACKAGES OFFERED?

To a degree, yes. This is something we need to discuss.

WHAT IS THE TYPICAL TURNAROUND TIME?

That’s impossible to say. I can assure you of this: if you are in a hurry, I’m not the one to do your overhaul. The plating and engraving work is sent out to different craftsmen, who are extremely busy, as am I. Your overhaul will take “a while”, and it’s ready when it’s ready. If you want a rush job, and I think I can possibly accommodate you, thee is a 50% surcharge.

CAN I RESERVE A TIME SLOT AND SEND MY HORN TO YOU WHEN YOU ARE READY TO START ON MY JOB?

Unfortunately, no. I’ve tried this and it just doesn’t work. You “get in line” when I have received your horn and your deposit.

CAN I PURCHASE PADS, PIPS, RESONATORS, AND OTHER SUPPLIES FROM YOU AND HAVE MY LOCAL TECHNICIAN INSTALL THEM?

In a word, no. Some of my unique materials are available from my friends at MusdicMedic.com.

HOW WILL YOU RETURN MY HORN TO ME?

Well packed, insured, and via Federal Express. I use no other shipper. I always prefer that clients pick up their horns in person so I can tweak it to their exact preferences, but I understand that this is not always possible.

WHAT ABOUT THE WARRANTY ON MY OVERHAUL?

My overhauls are warranted for one year on any work that I did. I don’t warrant against damage from dropping the horn or other actions that have nothing to do with any of the work I did. I tell all of my clients that they will hate me for the first two weeks while everything “settles in” to your climate and playing style! I do not warrant my overhauls for any client who does not use key clamps.  I do all of my own warranty work in my shop. If anyone else alters in any way the work that I did, the warranty is null and void. I will not reimburse anyone for any work on my overhauls.

IF I DON’T NEED A FULL OVERHAUL, WILL YOU WORK ON MY HORN?

Usually, no. I’m generally fully booked with overhaul work.

WOULD I BE ABLE TO SPECIFY SOME MATERIALS ON MY OVERHAUL THAT ARE NOT LISTED IN YOUR PACKAGES?

Usually, yes. For example, I have blued springs. I prefer the Kraus stainless steel springs because I believe that they give better service, but after all, it’s your horn!
